As they learn what tools are used for and how they are used, children begin to appreciate the care and respect that need to be given to other children sharing these tools and also of the tools being used.
As children find rhymes easy to remember, so rhymes are used to encourage the memory of certain rules. *This class or its equivalent previous sewing is required for all other children’s classes.

Introduction to the Sewing Machine
This ongoing program introduces children to the basic machine parts and how they work as a tool to make a “star”from start to finish. As they progress, children learn the concepts of what and why a seam allowance is needed, stitching right sides together, clipping, tapering and turning the fabric right side out.
An initial 2 hour class for three weeks will start students off and find whether they have an aptitude which can be developed and encouraged. After that, projects will become more advanced over four-weekly classes until they can comfortably use the machine. Shortened school holiday classes gives basic knowledge of the machine and stitching skills.
Each student can bring their own sewing machine to learn on, as each machine differs so their own is preferable. There will be a machine available in class if not available to bring.
In addition a small list of tools will be required to bring to the class, which each student will need for their future sewing necessities.
Cost: Initial class: $40.00 includes materials
Follow up classes $40.00 Students will be provided with fabric for each project.
